Having an issue with natural gas-fueled Forced Air Units (FAU's) in the attic of trac homes.

AHJ sites article 422.12 and 422.16 and says I have to use hard wire with a fuseable disconnect to the unit.

422.12 just says it has to be an individual branch circuit, which it is. Not even a multi-wire, just a plain, simple 12/2 home run back to the panel. (yeah, I know it is just supplying a squirrel cage and a small current draw for the computer board and ignitor, and I could probably use 14/2 instead, but I have learned to pick my battles so I use the 12/2.)

422.16 supports my position, IMO. I see nothing that states I must use hard wiring. The disconnect is the cord to the single (not duplex!) 20 amp. receptacle I install for the unit.

Ideas? thoughts? suggestions? threats? snide remarks?

I do not think so.

Are you saying that this forced air, gas furnace, located in an attic has fastening means and mechanical connections that are specifically designed to permit ready removal for maintenance or repair and the appliance is intended or identified for flexible cord connection?

I find that a big stretch.
