I have a 6lamp T-8 high bays with a manufacture cord whip with it. The cord plugs into the fixture with a special connector. Do I need to use a cord cap and receptacle when I hang this fixture? Or can I hard Wire it to the box. I am having no luck finding anything in the code book. I have always used a cord cap and have always noticed cord caps being used else where. Am I missing something?

I now see the ballast needs a disconnect. But if the disconnect is inside the fixture does this change anything with the supply cord?

Did you notice 410.24 in the Article titled ARTICLE 410? LUMINAIRES, LAMPHOLDERS, AND LAMPS?

Also if you are in Washington the state code rules have some additional provisions

Would a fluorescent fixture be considered Electric Discharge? I have always thought of those as HPS or metal Halide?
410.24 send me to 410.62B (2)C
The listed assembly would refer to some type of special plug that came on the cord from the manufacture?
The last part, or has a luminaire assembly with a strain relief and a canopy. Would a 4 sq blank cover with a knock out in it and strain relief connector in it for the cord meet this requirement? Or would it need to come from the manufacture.
Thanks

Bigger change comes from having the cord and plug connected supply, if you have this you wouldn't need the disconnect within the luminaire, even though many are shipped with them, not all that certain if they include them if there is a factory installed cord and plug though as I never use this option.

Electric discharge lighting is where the light source comes from passing electric current through a gas. Fluorescent and HID's all create light via passing current through a gas instead of through a glowing element like incandescent lights do. LED's are a completely different species that produces light with semiconductors.
