Modular laboratory furniture (a work station bench) is furnished with integral 120-volt duplex receptacles and task lights that are prewired to a cord and plug. The plug connects to a NEMA L14-20 125/250V twist-lock receptacle mounted in the ceiling. Does the NEC require a 2-pole circuit breaker to feed the twist-lock receptacle or can two 1-pole circuit breakers with a handle tie be used?

I echo the welcome and previous answers.

Since this was posted in the Hazardous Location forum, I need to ask the question whether the receptacles are located in a classified location or not; and, if so, how is it classified since there could be a few additional considerations? In general though, laboratories constructed consistent with NFPA 45 will have very little classified location requirements; so the previous answers are probably all that are necessary.
