We have outdoor flood lighting on poles in various locations. The fixtures have a cord and twistlock plug that is plugged into a twistlock cord cap that extends out of the top of the pole. There are an average of two lights per pole that are installed this way. We are replacing the HPS with Inductive Lights. I have read thru Article 410 (NEC 2008) and the only thing I could come up with is 410.62 which states in (B) "Luminaires that require adjusting or aiming after installation shall not be required to be equipped with an attachment plug or cord connector..."
So is this to be interpreted that they may be connected with plug and cord? The requirement for Electric Discharge luminaires (includes LED in 2011 NEC) is that they are to be located "directly below the outet or busway ". I do not believe that Inductive Lighting falls under that category but don't know enough about it at this point.
2008 NEC is the adopted version here.
