I was at another site the other day and the discussion was about generators. Someone said something about a cord with two male ends, I guess they were back feeding some outlets but I'm not sure. Someone said it was not safe using that kind of set up and I agree. This other fellow, the one who made the cord said he is an electrician and there is nothing in the code that says you can't. Is this true?

I would be afraid to work with someone who doesn't know the Code, realizes something is dangerous, and does it anyway just because he doesn't think the Code prohibits it.

By the way, remember to double check anything you might work on at that site. You already know the quality of work being done there.

Bill, what year code are you looking at? I could not find 406.6(B) But in the 1999 I found 410-56(G) which states what you said.

Re: Cord with two male ends

I was watching the Weather Channel today and a commercial came on advertising Honda generators. It showed a generator sitting on the front porch, I could swear I saw a cord with two male ends. The commercial is about a household that is without power due some sort of storm and the radio is saying that power may not be restored for a couple of days. As the camera pans through the house showing all kinds of appliances being used a woman walks to the front door to take her dog for a walk. When she opens the door there sits a generator. Any one else see what I think I saw?

I was told once that if OSHA finds such a cord in your possession it is a nasty fine, whether it is in use or not. Same for a cord with the ground pin removed.

But, I don't know if this is the case for sure.
