Anyone here been using the " corn cob" style LED bulbs in place of conventional medium base E26 bulbs?

I am looking at the cost verses LED fixtures for a pole barn.

For $38, plus the round nail on and keyless fixture I can get 4200 lumens.
Plus ,have the versatility of being able to install a surface mount fixture over the opening in the future if wanted.

I put up a Lithonia LED hanging fixtures rated at 11,000 lumens. It was obviously brighter( surprisingly not as much as I would have thought) and cost $135.00 more.

Even though the lumen output was considerably less, the 360 degree cast seemed to make it much brighter than the 4200 L would seem.

The hanging fixture was 4000K, the corn cob lamp was 5000K

Any experiences appreciated.

I'm nor sure what you are looking at and don't know the brand we just used. Fine deal, huh?

I am assuming the lamps that have multiple rows of LEDs end to end of the lamp. I see the local Big Box store now carries them. I haven't checked the price difference between BB and wholesale house yet.

We installed 4 in used older street light fixtures that a customer bought. The Cobra heads were in good shape, we removed the ballast and connected direct to the mogul base lamp holder. They are doing what he wants and the price was considerably less than new. Six months and counting so the jury is still out.

I have put several in and love them.

The only thing to watch for if installing them indoors is when you go over 45 watts (ish) they have a built in fan to keep them cool.

I found this out the hard way when I put these in a church chapel and people were hearing humming sounds...lol

Changed them to 40w and they are still going strong.

Our next song will be in a key somewhere between Bb and B. :D
