Can we use large LED corn row lights alone in a single bulb fixture ? (9000 lumens) Or do they require a shroud or guard ? The application is in a horse barn, 16 feet high. Sometimes wire guards are required with even small regular bulbs in a house by inspectors. But what about in a barn ? Thank you.

I would look at 547.8(B).
16 ft high I would no, but that call lies on the AHJ and his definition of subject to damage.

Are you retrofitting existing HID’s? If so, I would recommend you consider something other than a corn cob style lamp.

Satco has a nice selection of HID replacements that aim the light straight down. The only place I use the corn cob lamps are in sign retrofits.
