Hey all,

I have a friend that recently acquired a genset with selectable 1ph & 3ph outputs, it currently is set up with a single factory 250A 3ph breaker wired to lugs for attaching wires onto. He has asked me about installing a 250A receptacle onto it that he can quick connect a cord(s) to for various uses. I know I could put a 480v 3ph receptacle on it (max genset output) & never worry about exceeding the ratings, but, I also know receptacles & plugs are keyed to prevent making the wrong connections to voltages. Since this output is variable no matter what I connect to it, what are your thoughts, and what is considered legal, if at all?

That was what I was thinking, but the variable output had me questioning it since I’ve not dealt with that situation before, thanks!
The connectors are rated 600V / 400A. Since both the generator and single pole connectors require a qualified individual shouldn't be a problem.
