Well I followed directions and removed batteries when not in use! Some of the small "AA" springs have corroded up, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for proper cleaning?

What kind of device? That will depend on what kind of liquids you would expose the springs to. You may have to do it 'dry' by brushing off the corrosion with plastic and brass brushes.

If you can get the springs 'wet', try baking soda and water. Also, don't overlook the points where the springs contact the connector in the device.

DeOxit works good, too.

Depends on the type of battery. Alkaline batteries, naturally enough, have an electrolyte which is a base, not an acid as in lead-acid batteries.
So an acid-type neutralizer might work better. Something like dilute vinegar or a scum remover like LimeAway(tm) or CLR(tm) which use phosphoric acid.
But be sure not to let those get from the metal terminals into electronics or even a switch.
