Magnetic Flowmeter Specification Sheet

Can any one provide a current cost for a magnetic type flowmeter class 1 division 1 .

Outlet Flow
PIPE PARAMETERS
Outer Diameter 10’’
Pipe Material
Wall Thickness
FLUID
Fluid type Liquid
Fluid Name Water
Density 62.4 lbs/ft3
Phase 100% Liquid
PROCESS PARAMETERS
Pressure 90psi
Temperature
Ambient Temperature 80 – 88 degF
Flowrate 2500 – 3000 gpm

3000 gpm is about 12 fps. Mag meters work well with high fps, the mags I used would go to 30 fps. You could spec a smaller flow tube. Are the electronics mounted on the flow tube or are they remote

Rosemount's sizing guide suggests the preferred range is 2-20 ft/sec and the offer sizes from 0.5" to 48" diameter. If you follow petersonra's link, you can configure your options and put it in the cart for a price. I did a quick config and got a price of $7,334 for a 10" meter with an XP rating for Class I Div 2. The didn't have a Div 1 option.

I would probably not use a mag meter for a generic application like this. But the OP did not give a whole lot of information about his application. I would probably use a D/P flow transmitter. But, it would come down to the application.

You feel a mag flow would be overkill? Just wondering.

mag meters have their place. they are especially useful where the water is full of crud that would make some other kind of meter inappropriate. but yes, I think they are often overkill. Plus they introduce their own issues.

incidentally, a signet magmeter is a lot less money and usually works as well.
