I have a very interesting phenomenon taking place between my home's electrical system and satellite TV system. I have never had reception or quality issues with my Dish Network system. I personally performed the installation and wiring with all high quality materials.

Just last week, I had a new a/c unit installed for my home. It is a high efficient model but comparable to my older model in branch circuit rating. What I am experiencing doesn't make any sense.

With the a/c system off, the TV picture looks very good. However, when the a/c cycles on, the picture becomes crystal clear. I mean absolutely flawless and rich. It is very noticeable. Now that I have been noticing this for the last couple of days, I can tell by the picture quality on my TV as to whether the a/c is on or off.

How is this possible? I can't tell you how many times I have heard homeowners and other people complain about satellite TV quality when appliances are turned on, not the other way around. Is there a reasonable explanation for this or am I possibly going nuts???

What model is the receiver? The newer ones actually use the powerline for communications: to other receivers, or other Dish equipment in the house.

The AC could be generating enough noise to keep that part of the receiver "busy", which may have some interaction with the picture decoding algorithms. It's a long shot, but maybe.
