I know this has been discussed before but it's been a while. Is there any Code to prohibit placing an outlet behind the kitchen sink? I know it doesn't count toward the 24" spacing rule, but this is an unusual situation. It's a normal 24" wide counter, the outlet's about 6" above the counter in the wall. It's just a few inches inside from the left edge of the sink. It's on the 20A small appl circuit and GFI protected. Thanks.

That's what I thought. This is a remodel, old house. Left of sink is a window, no place for an outlet. I figured if I didn't put one there he'd call me on it. So I put it as far left as possible, but still over the sink. He said can't be over the sink. Normally I wouldn't do it, but I can't find it in the Code to prohibit.

210.52 requires them behind sinks if the space = 18" for a corner or 12"for a straight sink mount,.. it sets no minimum distance from.

I made a mistake ,.it does not say a receptacle would be required just that the wall space would be measured in determining the receptacle lay out for the counter

AND??? The problem is what?

I don't have a problem with it. But there's a lot of folks out there that think there shouldn't be water near electricity.

I guess I won't tell them that dirly little secret about their disposal, dishwasher, sump pump, washing machine, electric water heater and humidifier.
