Counterfeit Square D circuit breakers

Did this problem only exist from 2003-2006 or so?

Did Square D have any standard for breaker markings (or is there no rhyme or reason?) before this time? I have seen (on pre-2003 systems) numbers in black or white, painted on or molded into the end of ther breaker handle, or molded into the base of the breaker handle (harder to see, especially when the breaker is "on").

It seems every 5-10 years Square D changes the appearance of the QO line. I am sure this has to do with the manufacturing process more than any thing else. I know that 20 years ago there was no color to a QO, eveything was black.
