I recently received an inquiry from a contractor regarding a grounding specification that references a ?counterpoising? ground. The paragraph that this term showed up in was describing the installation of a ground ring around a building. I had not heard of the term prior to seeing this specification. I did a quick search for this term of the Mike Holt website and the internet but was unable to find anything. Any idea of what the definition of a ?counterpoising ground? is?

Re: Counterpoising Ground

It is a term without meaning. Generally it means a faux ground where none can be used. More often it is used in the radio/broadcast industry with respect to antennas. I have seen some people use the term to describe a "crows foot" type of pattern

The key word in your statement is a "ground ring". I can only assume they are going to use some sort of radials off the ring like at maybe the corners or where lightning down condictors will be used to divert lightning away from the building.
