Sorry about the wordiness.

So I placed in add on Craigslist just for kicks.

If you read my other thread about the bottom feeders that post there you would have seen mine add too.

I did it mostly to be the contrarian to all the lowball hacks on there.

Within an hour I had a call.

Setup to meet guy to look at ?Replacing some old wires?

On the way to meet he calls me to say he?s running late. I say I?ll be there in 15 he says he?ll be there too. So then he?s not running late??

He says on the phone I?ll see the black wires that need to be replaced, his guys are there, go in and look. I do just that. The black wires are old K&T and yea they should be replaced.

However?.The entire second floor apartment where the black wires reside is gutted!

Take a quick look around go sit in my truck to wait and come up with a quick estimate. After a half hour of waiting, and getting yelled at from some lady in a purple bathrobe for parking in her driveway, I leave. Guy calls an hour later wondering where I am.

He just got there. So I give him the scoop. Rewire entire apt to code, smokes, co detectors, permits, signed contract, etc. He?s not into that. He just wants black wires replaced. There is some romex there but it was all fished in at one point and is mostly sitting in the floor.

Told him $7500.00 more or less. He?ll check the budget and call me back. Guess who hasn?t called.

I could probably bang this out for about 5K and maybe even less. But?while I was looking around the guys doing demo went on a tear ripping the contactor and how they would never work for him again, he's cheap, he knows nothing about construction etc. They pointed to all the drywall that was delivered BEFORE the demo even began. So I had to price with this in mind.

My guess is he want back to Craigslist and found the $37.00 and hour guys and will give them the job.

So see Craigslist does work, if you?re a lowball hack.

I had this same problem with a local advertiser back when I was contracting. It was VERY frustrating. To be honest, it was one of the reasons I decieded to get out of the game.

Keep up the good fight Scott! I am 100% on your side with this issue...

Told you that was gonna happen.

electric man scott..did ya really want that job? Why do you compete with the dorks on cregs list or what ever the name of the list is? bunch of dorks on a free list.

why don't you go to real contractors and ask 'em what thier pay'n the other electrical contractors....get you foot in the door and then raise your price?

people you meet on cragis list, yellow pages, and other advertizing are not worth working for.... unless you really need the money, but if you go to a real contractor and ask'em...............Do the Rolling Stones adertize on crages list? NO, they have a group of people that would pay the price they ask to get the CD or what ever. General contractors will do the same, if they don't call your cousin vinny.......

oh, ya, you say you've been to general contractors but they won't give you work because you're not "established".........Well, get your self organized, set some goals, get some guys who want money as bad as you do and try again. When that don't work do it again. And again, and again, and agin. After time the generals will see something in you... lord knows what. But with time you'll get some real jobs....

electric man scott, if all fails. put some sugar in your pants when you drop off your bid. Of course I never tried if myself, but whatever it takes to get work, right?

We kinda figured this out the hard way. I placed an add on Craigslist, tryed to generate some new business. Went to bid a few jobs, and everyone wanted us to work for free or something. Other than a few small service calls, nothing ever panned out.

I didn't really expect to get any work from posting there. I was mostly posting to take a jab at the guys that do get there work from there.

By the way...Can there be a breathalyzer function put on the forum??
