My hoist motor is rated at 70Amps. I have 6 awg wire going to the motor. The motor is 30 minute rated motor. per table 610.14(A) the #6 is rated for 86 amps (adequate for motor FLA). I have a 110 amp fuse as the branch circuit protective device per sections 610.43 (Overload Protection)/610.42(A)/Table 430.52. Am I still required to have an overcurrent device rated for 86 amps (such as a thermal overload) for the cable overload protection? The way 610 is written it doesn't appear as though this is the case. I'm not sure thats correct.
