CREE LED Lighting / Investment

Aside from electrical I like to follow the markets and one company has been mentioned several times that deals with LED lighting the company is CREE http://www.cree.com/

I was wondering if anybody has any experience with their brands. I have not had much experience with LED lighting on a large scale so I was wondering if any have used them in schools or large scale commercial projects. I tend to think there must b eother companies competing against CREE.

I'm pretty sure that most of the lighting products on that page are items they have partnered with another lighting manufacturer on. I remember a lighting rep telling me that Cree partners with several of the major lighting manufacturers.

I previously worked designing LED based signs. CREE LEDs stood out as a higher quality product in terms of output power, and a bit more expensive. But we were working with the actual diodes, not a completed light fixture. I would guess that if they can design good semiconductors with good light output and good heat control, that they would be able to design good light fixtures.
