What's the best crimp tools/connector system for terminal connectors for conductors larger than #10? I've heard of Sta-kon. Any others? Preferences? Reasons? As always; help is appreciated.

What tool, does the manufacture of the terminal indicate you use? that's the tool!

For the cost of good crimper's you need to be sure of what applications your going to use it on, I started looking into crimper's awhile ago in the range of #2 through 500kcm, mostly I'll be using them on Al, some are good for copper only and some are good for al only, Greenlee, Ideal and burndy are a few that I have looked at but the really good ones that do a broad range of sizes and material that you can buy different dies for are a little out of my price range, All I can recommend is to do your homework try to buy one that you can get the most out of, I would be interested in hearing others opinions that have used or purchased them.

Depends on how much larger than #10 you plan on going. Burndy makes a great set for up to #2. It's the Burndy Hytool OH25. Comes with a nice case with various size lugs and butt splices.

I should have been more specific about wire sizes. At the moment, my need is for #2 thru #8.

Thanks,

Mark

busman,
your needs would be met with the pocket burndy tool that has the different dies that rotate on the tool itself. on larger terminations it is very important to match the terminal to the correct tool to attain the proper crimp torque. i have always used burndy tools and burndy terminals and made sure they are rated for the type of wire ---- aluminum or copper. and the larger burndy high press unit should be rebuilt and re-calibrated or certified by the manufacturer from time to time. when properly terminated a high press terminal rarely fails as compaired to a mechanical lug...............
