When buying crimps do they make specific crimps for the specific brand of crimper ?
went to start to crimp with a burndy hydrolic and the size dyes did not match up to the size of the crimp?

also I noticed that a 250 kcmil,al, single hole crimp fit on a 300 kcmil al conductor is this normal.

It was my first time crimping with lugs I've only done barrel splices .

thanks for your time

It's been a while, but last I saw is was color coded for each tool to use for each crimp.

I'm sure you can find some charts and graphs via your favorite search engine.

Yes I looked at the 300 a conductor today and it says compact on it .
I noticed that the strands on the wire are square .

whats the purpose of compact wire ?

You definitely need the right crimper with aluminum lugs. Using anything else just wrecks the crimp.

EDIT: Just found this video, I didn't realize this cordless Burndy was the proper crimper for aluminum. We actually own this style crimper, but up till this point I've only used it for those heavy copper c-taps. I'll have to give it a shot next time I need to crimp some aluminum!

Several of our customers specify that we only use the crimper that is approved for that lug or c-tap. Be it Burndy, Panduit T&B, etc, etc, etc
