We?re wiring a CT scan in our local hospital, and we had to add a critical branch outlet in an existing wall of the room. We were initially going to piece together small lengths of emt and shove it down the wall to a cut-in box, but the facilities director of the hospital told us to do it in hosp grade mc cable, and that it was legal as long as we hit a box and changed over to hard pipe as soon as we came out of the wall. So we did, at his request. That being said, the CT manufacturer came by to tell us what AHCA would want to see, and he said there is a code reference in 517 saying that we must use hard pipe for the critical branch circuit for "protection", not redundant ground. I agreed with him and wanted to do it like that in the first place, but on the side I am not finding any such article in 517. Any ideas?

Well they are partially right but they quit reading to soon. They are talking about 517.30 (C)(3). Read 517.30(C)(3)(3)(c) for your application.
