Years ago I came across an energized end of K&T in direct contact with a 2x4. There was an obvious teardrop shaped burn mark in the wood.

What is that process called?

However there is controversy on the existence of that process and you can find documents that say it is possible and others that say it is not.

Old age for sure, but pyrolysis was what I was looking for.
