I have had different interpretations on this over the years, so here is my question: 230.7 reads that conductors other than service conductors shall not be installed in the same service raceway or service cable, but does the same rule apply to CT cabinets and meter bases? When installing a new ATS on an existing service I have had inspectors allow routing the feeder back through the meter into the house panel, and I have had others politely ask me not to do it again. We are quoting a job now for a residence with CT cabinet and five 200 amp disconnects. Is it permissible to feed our new disconnect/ATS from the cabinet and route the new feeder back into the cabinet to tie into the already existing conductors. I sat in on a session with Mike at a Generac seminar in which he argued that some meters are listed for that purpose and therefore legal. Is the Code clear on the issue? Is it a UL issue? Is it up to AHJ? Is it up to POCO? Thanks in advance for your opinions and help.
