How many of you have ever noticed that the POCOs engineer and require a certain ct enclosure. You install this nect to a 400, 600 or up size disconnect. Then when you come in from the underground and loop to the top. Then loop from the bottom back up to the top for your disconnect. There is not near enough room to make the wire fit, and do it neatly. They all insist that you terminate to the top, even though it is not a disconnect. In my opinion it is a tap connection.

We just installed a 600 amp enclosure, and you have barely enough room to make the wire fit. the wire has to actually lay in the front of the cts. Why don't they make a ct enclosure that has a wireway built to the side? Or better yet, but a ct enclosure that has a bottom feed, and top feed set of lugs, like the do the underground type meter sockets.

Do any of you guys have this same problem with POCO required equipment? Why are we always having to fight for room in certain pieces of equipment?

The how about the transformer? They have about 3ft sq of connection space for the primary side, which usually is about a 1/0 hi voltage cable. Then we have to pull into anywhere from 16 to 44, 350 kcmil or 500 kcmil cables in a space that is about 18" sq. I know chances are things will never change on this but where did they get the dimensions from?

Knowing all of that, why did you come up under it?

Because we had a pad mount transformer and the space on the back wall was limited. The realty company will not allow overhead services to the back of the building. Besides, if you come in from the top, then you still have to either make a big loop under to the bottome side of the disconnect. Or if you line the tops of the ct enclosure and the disconnect up, you have to nipple between the boxes, which still requires you to cross the wires.

About the only way to make it so the wire do not cross would be to swing the conduits in a large loop, which would look kind of sloppy and also waste large amout of the next to gold bullion priced feeder wire we are having to buy still.

I miss the days of cheap copper , cheap gasoline and expensive Coca Cola.

In this area of so. mass the POCO installa's their CT's around the secondary feet on which we bolt our lugs,(these are only hand tight, POCO torques them down 7 monts thier ct meter on side of trans. Makes our job so much easier.
