this is what I get for not paying attention in circuit theory class.

in the below diagram, if current is flowing thru the primary of the CPT, with one terminal not connected and the other connected to a load, then the load grounded. Will current flow to power up the load?

Think about what are basic requirements for current to flow.

Draw out the current path then maybe you will figure it out.

source of energy and transformation devices are not the same thing. The secondary circuit is a circuit of its own receiving its energy from the primary circuit.

The secondary you have drawn is what is called an "open circuit", and no current flows through an open circuit. There needs to be a closed circuit on the secondary for current to flow - for example, grounding the upper secondary terminal.

Then you would have a short circuit!

Then you would have a short circuit!

look at the drawing again there is a load connected between the lower transformation device terminal and ground. You will have a circuit through whatever the grounded object(s) is. May not be desirable in many cases but there is a circuit path.
