I am looking for info on what current limiting fuses are and why are they used. A topic I know very little about. Is it lower fault current? Do they blow much quicker than breakers? I have seen them on the load side of transformers and a few other odd places. Thanks for your help

I'm no expert on fuses but from what I remember they're designed to open in something like 1/4 cycle in reaction to a fault. This limits the amount of current that can be generated by the fault.

I don't remember enough about this topic. What I do remember is that you can't automatically credit this as the solution to resolve selective coordination issues.

Just like current limiting breakers, current limiting fuses have a current range where they do limit current, but if the current is below that there is no current limiting.
