Hi,

Is there a specific way to position the clamp on meter to measure current the correct way?
Thanks for your replies.

Re: Current measurement

Yep. Position the clamp "around" the conductor who's current you want to measure. :D

I'm guessing there's more to this question.

Re: Current measurement

Of course Physics,

Fluke meter has some etched indication that the conductor should be in the center of clamp. Some others do not and I do not know why.

Re: Current measurement

I don't think it would make a difference. Of course you can test it by moving the conductor around in the loop. I can't argue with manufacturer instructions but maybe they mean it has to be in the loop as opposed to gripping the conductor with the ends of the loop like with pliers.

Edit: Physics is a mundane translation, you have to go back to ancient Greek and do some hunting around to find the most interesting translation.

Re: Current measurement

I have seen an instance when moving the conductor off center within the clamp has showed a change in reading when I was using digital meter.

Re: Current measurement

That's interesting. Was it much? More than the typical jittering kind of stuff that digital meters do?

Re: Current measurement

Center the conductor in the clamp as much as possible at a right angle. Don't let the arrow on the clamp device fool you, it is for DC polarity.
