current transducer installation in flexible cord

Hello,
I want to measure the current in a dough mixer that is supplied with power through a multi-conductor flexible cord, plug, and receptacle. I plan to cut the cable in order to breakout a conductor to pass through the current transformer and re-terminate the conductors on a terminal strip. The non-metallic enclosure to house the current transducer and terminal strip will be equipped with nylon cord grips to seal the enclosure and provide stress relief.
Does this violate the NEC rule that prohibits splicing of flexible cord?

1. Amprobe makes an adapter that you could use. It is a multiplier that plugs in to the wall outlet then plug in the mixer to the adapter. I'll look for a part number.
2. Remove the wall receptacle and clamp on to the hot wire.
3. Clamp on at the panel on the circuit wire.

I think he's looking for something permanent so the persons running the mixer will know when they are over loading the motor. We mounted a amp meter in a small J -box on the mixer and rerouted the cord though the box landing one phase on the shunt meter calibrated to amps. but a current coil will also do the trick.
