Does anyone know if there is an exceptable way to cut 1 big hole where a trough meets the gear, as opposed to multiple chase nipples?

Example, I am adding a transfer switch in front of the gear box. I am using a trough on top of the gear to connect the two, as opposed to 8 sets of 4 inch conduit for the multiple parelleled 750mcm feeders. Trying to make it easier! If I cut one hole between the gear and the trough, what is the proper way to protect the wire from the edges? Thanks for any help in advance.

We sometimes have to do something similar, although on a smaller scale. We usually blot the two things together and cut a square hole out through the wall of both boxes. Then line the edges with a grommet materal to protect the wires.
