D.C. Chapter Speaks Out on Loosening Electrical Journeyman Licensing

I believe that this thread - or, specifically, the article it links to - is more of a 'political,' rather than a 'trade' topic.

The article seems to infer that only with every jurisdiction testing every worker can credentials be trusted. I have a few issues with that concept- not the least of which being that every group that tested me believes themselves to be the only reliable 'testers.'

The precept of local testing is in direct conflict with the ideal of national, even international, conformity. If we're to adopt the NEC without local ammendment (A NECA objective), then wouldn't it be consistant for one credential to be enough- rather than having every hamlet require its' own?

Left unsaid - a deceit, IMO- by the NECA article is the fact that NECA represents only part of the contractor spectrum- the unionized part. Some chapters, like the one for Arkansas, explicitly require member firms to be "organized." Thus, NECA is using this news release to infer that non-union, though DOL recognized, apprentice programs are somehow not legitimate.

I support the right of NECA to spread its' political message .... but don't insult me by pretending it's a "public service" announcement.
