If a light fixture says “damp location only” can it be used in a dry location?

It’s just a conundrum that made me think today, as I installed said light fixture in a house

I wonder the same thing about fluorescent ballasts that say residential only or not for residential use.

That may be because commercial ones emit more RFI and are noisy. Residential only may be because they won't hold up under continuous use.

As to the OPs question, didn't we discuss that in the Big Ass Fan thread?

It’s just funny to me at everything has to be listed for “that” purpose according to code. So if we use something listed for “wet location only” in a dry location are we going against code?
