Damp or wet location?

Clear up a difference of opinion between me and a fellow contractor. I think a run of pvc underground would be considered a damp location, my friend says it is a wet location. because of condensation. who would be correct?

Art. 300.5 was revised in the 2008 code to clarify that raceway underground are considered wet location.

300.5 (B) Wet Locations. The interior of enclosures or raceways installed underground shall be considered to be a wet location. Insulated conductors and cables installed in these enclosures or raceways in underground installations shall be listed for use in wet locations and shall comply with 310.8(C). Any connections or splices in an underground installation shall be approved for wet locations.

That is a "rule of thumb" used by many, but that is nowhere in the NEC.

I agree with John on his answer, but it's the same rule of thumb that I follow.:smile:
