I have been informed that the code (NYC/NEC, Project is in Manhattan) does not allow AC electrical feeders to run through a fire tower, but does this apply to DC feeds as well?
Our client needs to power a remote cabinet located on the 11th floor of a building with the main cabinet on the 32nd floor roof. We will be running a conduit with fiber in the fire tower, then penetrating the wall on the 11th floor and out to the perimeter of the building.
The fiber alone in the conduit appears to be in compliance with the code, but the remote equipment on the 11th floor requires DC power which is typically run with the fiber in the conduit.
Is this allowable by code? What section of the code should I be looking at.
Thanks in advance.
RJ
