dead man for ceiling lights

I was on a job today and saw a electrician hanging 4' strip lights with a ratcheting pole that could extend to 12 ' .... looked online and couldnt find anything . I know you can make one from a 2x4 but i like that can do anything from 6' to 12 ' anyone know where i can find this

Can you describe the tool a little more, I am having a hard time picturing what it is.

Probably something from ZipWall would do the trick. The ends are padded, so they wouldn't mess up the lights. It never dawned on me to use them for that. http://www.zipwall.com/kit20.html

I have a friend who bought one years ago but I can't imagine using it for a 4' strip light.

It is similar to what I have seen used to hold the sheetrock up.

Cabinet installers use a gizmo called a "third hand" that's like you describe.
