Hello,
Don't want to violate any forum rules, so will admit right off the bat that I am not a contractor.
But, I am a retired Electrical Engineer, so perhaps you will allow me a question.
Really want to be sure that what I am proposing to do is safe, and hopefully code compliant.
Wish to install an outside Deck light.
Would be about nine feet or so above the Deck, and fastened to the outside
(wooden) wall.
It looks like it will be tough to run the wires thru the inside, so am
considering doing it with the simple semi-rigid (the grayish stuff) plastic pvc tubing for the wires, fastened to the outside wall with clips.
Connections for any elbows, etc. would all be the solvent type.
This should be, I would think, pretty weather resistant and waterproof.
At eye level, on the outside, there is an electrical box for a small existing
light now that I can run the tubing in to.
Before I talk with the Town Electrical Inspector, thought I'd ask here
first.
Is this, likely, a Code approved way of doing it ?
I know they have semi-rigid, and also flexible, plastic tubing, and connectors that are deemed watertight, but this seems a bit more complicated than the regular, typical pvc tubing with the solvent connected elbows, etc.
(not sure what the correct terminology is for the pvc plastic tubing ?)
Is this an O.K. thing to do ?
Or, do I need the "weathertight system" of flexible plastic tubing and weathertight connectors ?
Any thoughts on this would be most appreciated.
Thank you very much
Bob
