Apologies, this is a duplicate question, just thought it may be more appropriate to ask here.

I can't seem to find anything in Art. 690 that would make 110.26(E)(1) apply to solar PV inverters, 110 only mentions panelboards, switchboards, and MCC's.

Even if a pipe did burst above an inverter it would not affect it's operation. Besides the point though, just curious if there is something I am missing that would prohibit the inverters being installed below a foreign system.

I know it's up to the AHJ, but in the past he hasn't cited an actual article.

Thanks for the reply, we try to avoid this when possible, sometimes we have no other option.

The inverters are typically OK outdoors, so a drip of water here and there won't hurt.
A burst pipe may cause issues, but this could happen even if the pipe is not directly overhead.

Even if were close to water systems, we use outdoor rated equipment.
 
The main intent of dedication space has nothing to do with pipe bursts. It is about reserving the room for future installation of additional conduits. That is why it is limited to switchboards, panelboards, and MCCs.
