If anyone has experience with deep driven ground rods would you please answer some questions. I have begun using sectional ground rods on some jobs and I have only had mixed success with getting under twenty five ohms using them. I have read that a conductive clay slurry is sometimes used during the driving process to fill the gaps around the rod that are left by the passage of the rod couplings through the earth. Can anyone tell me how the slurry is made up from sodium bentonite and were the clay is obtained. It took a couple of tries to get the local supply house to order the rod couplings so I know they won't have the sodium bentonite.

If anyone is willing to suggest were I shop for the sodium bentonite that is used to make the conductive slurry and coach me on it's application I would be very grateful.

Tom you might want to also consider gypsum. Bentonite clay shrinks, whereas gypsum will not.
