We are about to wire a building that has one layer of 1/2" soundboard then one layer of 5/8" sheetrock over that. This would give a thickness of 1 1/8". The standard nail-on box is for 1/2" rock. Does anyone know of any plastic box, preferbly like the Slater brand because of the push in screw holes that extends out deeper for the 1 1/8" sheetrock? I know we can use a 4 square with the 1" plaster ring but I want to try to use a plastic box since we are using type NM cable. We plan on using about 1500 of these so I am open to any ideas. Thanks

Hey DDuffee260, what part of Texas are you from I'm originally from around the San Angelo area, a little town called Menard, great place to visit, we still own a house down there I plan to move back some day, excellent deer, turkey, dove, quail hunting and also fishing  , I now live in Dallas, any way I would say the 4sq w/plaster ring and use the plastic push-in romex connector, use something that is readily available, oh don't forget the Grnd-pigtails

Re: Deep sheetrock boxes?

Check out the adjust a box. Maybe a bit expensive for 1500 of them but they work well. I think it is Carlon that makes em. Ask your supplier.

Yep -- go with the Carlon Adjustable Zip Box. They cost about double the equivalent nailer boxes, but they are so worth it. I use them whenever possible.

Here's a link to the product Web page.

This is definitely the way to go. The boxes adjust out to 1.75". More than enough for your installation. Around here these cost $1.49 at Big Orange. I'm sure that the supply house would have a better price on 1500 of them. Either way even at a buck and a half they are cheaper than a 1900 with an adapter cover.

Re: Deep sheetrock boxes?

If I'm not mistaken I paid close to a buck and a half each. Expensive devils.

Re: Deep sheetrock boxes?

If you are using nm cable, the T & B model 2000 is an 18 cu. in. fiberglass nail on which can be set out the 1 1/8" you are looking for for about $.38 ea. They make a larger one, too, but I'm not sure of the model #. This line from T&B is the old Union box line.

John, I compared the two links from the photo you tried to post and the one that I posted. It seems that in your photo the end of the link had .jpeg, the one that I posted had .jpg. Guess that this was the problem.
