Can someone tell me if they know of any publication that explains the difference between terms such as support, securely supported, securely fastened, etc.

For example, 342.30 (B)(3)in addressing vertical risers uses the phrase "supported and securely fastened in place".
Would a conduit that is installed within the V of a bar joist be considered to be supported?

Thank you

Re: Definition of "support"

Brian,
I think that a conduit installed in the V of a bar joist is supported but not secured. Look at 342.30(B)(4) where supports are required every 10', but it is only required to be secured within 3' of the conduit termination points. Note that this only applies to hortizontal runs through openings in framing members. It is my opinion that the V of a bar joist is an opening in a framing member. Verticle runs must be secured, to the support in some manner to overcome the effects of gravity.
