I have come across some wording that I need a definition for. Could someone help me with these.
1) Cable limiters
2) Bolted pressure switch

Re: Definitions

Cable limiters are fuses that are crimped to the end of a conductor. You might look at Bussman web site or catalog for more information and details.

Bolted Pressure Switch is a fused (or unfused) switch which is normally rated 800 amps or higher. These switches are rated to carry 100% of nameplate load, instead of the 80% for switches 600 and smaller. All the major switchgear manufacturer's make (or provide) their own version of a bolted pressure switch. Square D calls theirs "Bolt Lock".

Re: Definitions

Cable limiters are also called cable protectors. They differ from fuses in that they are used only for short circuit current limitation and not for general overcurrent protection. When these are located at both ends of a cable run it is possible to isolated a fault to a single conductor in runs of 3 or more parallel cables per phase.

Bolted pressure switches differ from normal switches because they have a geared mechanism that actually clamps (bolts) the movable contacts to the stationary contacts when the switch closes. This design allows very large amounts of current to be handled so it is not uncommon to see these devices rated 100% and upto 4000A in size.
