Delay in adopting 2011 NEC

In my area they have put off adopting the 2011 NEC because of the economy being slow. I was curious has other areas/locals done this as well??

I like/and don't like it at the same time to some degree. There are some things in the 2011 that I think is a little over board and doesnt deal with safety but more of a 'design' issue. ie. requireing neutrals to be installed at switches even when its not in use.

2011 code

2011 code

You are right that the 2011 code has a lot of things that did not need to be changed BUT that has been the way of the Code Panels for the last few Cycles.
I think that all areas should stop and think that just because a new code is presented every 3 years that We should just run out and adopt it. The Chattanooga , Tennessee Inspection Department does not plan to adopt it. We only adopted the 08 in July 2010 after much thought . I ask that you give much thought to the fact that just because it is presented to you it don't make it the best Code for your Area..... a little good don't make up for all the BAD.

2011 Adoption

2011 Adoption

Greetings,

In our area, the Commonwealth of Virginia, adoption of the NEC code is based on the adoption of the building codes.

For example, the current BC references 2008 NEC. Virginia just recently adopted the 2008 NEC.

It will not adopt the 2011 NEC until the next iteration of the BC.

Just because it's time for a code cycle does not mean that you need to change it.
