the other day my boss showed me what he called a 'silly breaker' which i thought was a moronic name but anyway,
it looks like a 4-pole breaker
but when you turn it over, it only has two contacts to contact a bus bar, both are on one end
the other 'end' of the breaker has no contacts which could plug into a bus
he said that it was used incase you had a single phase service, and you needed a three phase load, and could get POCO to bring you in a third leg
usually a high leg
i was curious, but did not think about it again until today, working on an older ITE panel, it made reference to that specific breaker, calling it a Delta something something breaker
has ANYONE seen these strange things? and what were they used for?
by boss told me that they Used to be Legal, but are not any more.
what is the deal
??
