Demand Factor for Lab equipment

Hello,

I am working on a project where we have a lab that is used for testing of road construction material (think DOT). Is there anywhere in the code that allows any sort of a diversity factor to be applied to the equipment that is being used randomly?

Thanks

Does the equipment plug into the wall? If so, and you're confident of it's intermittent use, then just use the demand factor for general receptacles.

You can count the demand at 180VA per receptacle too, regardless of what the total nameplate demand of all those lab appliances is. I know some of you are going to holler at me for that but its the truth. Only a handful of these things get used at one time.

You have to use some common sense too. An oven or freezer will draw its full load whenever it's used and should be counted at its nameplate value. I usually try to limit the number of receps on any one circuit for a lab.

I agree with Shoe though. For all cord-and-plug loads, take the first 10 kVA at 100% plus the remainder at 50% and you can't go wrong.
