demand factors, commercial kitchen equipment

Hi,

I am doing some practice load calcs for restaurants.

220.20 says I can take a deduction for some types of kitchen equipment. It also says however, this deduction will not apply to spaceheating, ventilating or air conditioning.

Some of my practice examples include hood fans and vent fans. In my examples they count these as deductable appliances. Is not a hood fan some sort of ventilation?? I guess I might be confused!

Thanks

Re: demand factors, commercial kitchen equipment

I am surprised that your example uses exhaust hoods in the demand calculation. They are on continuously while the kitchen is open, and I wouldn't consider them a candidate for 220.20 in the 2002 NEC. If you read 220.20 carefully, it says that it applies to all equipment that has either thermostatic control or intermittent use as kitchen equipment.

maybe the person that made up your practice missed that. I know it was a question on my masters test and you couldn't use them in the demand.

Re: demand factors, commercial kitchen equipment

thanks guys,

Yes, I am studying for my masters test.
The questions come out of of?tom henry's book, calculations for the electrical exam 99 code. I have a few dif. study guides, and non of the others even have fans included in any text, so... Its a little troubling. I guess I will say that no, don't include them. The example is for a load calc for a school, but the school has a cafateria with a full kitchen. Could for some reason this make a difference? Just trying to give the author the benefit of the doubt!
Thanks for writing back guys!
