Hey, it's after midnight and I'm tired and I'm also new at commercial work. I need to do a load calculation on a 7 unit strip mall. I've done the load calc's on each individual unit, now do I add the ampacity of each unit to get the overall service demand load or is there a demand factor I can use as you do in multi-family dwellings? Is the only demand factor that's allowable in commercial work is the "over 200 amps" for the neutral portion of the unbalanced linear loads? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks....

Re: Demand Factors for Commercial Loads

Your service calculation is based on article 230.42 which states that the minimum service to be based on 100% of the non-continuous and 125% of the continuous loads. The exceptions to this would be a demand of 65% if you have 6 or more pieces of kitchen equipment. Also, after 10,000 watts of general purpose receptacle load you can apply a 50% demand to all remaining general purpose receptacles loads. These are the basics.
