Demand Load for Cooking Equipment

I have a question that I disagree with:

What is the demand load in VA for 3 pieces of cooking equipment with a 10kw, 12 kw and 18 kw rating? Answer is 15,400va.

I disagree and using T220.55 (note 2 for unequal ratings), I come up with a 19.9va demand. Can someone verify that I have the right answer. Thanks.

See if you can follow me on this. I'm not good at explaining it.

3 cooking units rated 10kw, 12kw and 18 kw.

10kw becomes 12 kw per note 2

12kw+12kw+18kw = 42kw

42kw/3= 14kw

14kw-12kw = 2kw (in excess of 12kw)

2kw * 5% = 10%

14kw + (14kw*10% or .1) = 15.4 kw

Maybe you could post how you came up with your answer?

Thanks 480sparky, I didn't divide.

Originally, I added 10kw, 12 kw and 18 kw = 40.
40 - 12 = 28
28 x 5% = 1.4
3 units = 14
14 x 1.4 = 19.6

I should have divided 40/3 = 13.33 - 12 = 1.33 x 5% = .1 (round up). 14 x 1.1 = 15.4

Look at the part of note 2 in the first set of parenthesis...(using 12kw for any range rated less than 12kw).

So you need to replace the 10kw with 12kw. That brings the total to 42kw.

You are subtracting the 12kw from your total instead of the average. The last sentence in note 2 reads in part: "...by which this average exceeds....".
