Dental smoke detectors

I’ve recently started my first dental office remodel and the only thing I’m not clear on is the smoke detector system. The plans show the SD symbol in the 5 exam rooms, bathrooms, closets, Break room, lobby. The building does not have sprinklers.
My question is, do they need to be in all the spaces above, and how would it be wired? In 12/3 mc or alarm cable.
I don’t see an alarm panel
Thanks in advance

Contractually you have to install them per the plans and specs. How you wire them will be according to the approved system instructions.

You need to check with the fire department or building department to see what they require for the building.

If smoke detectors are required they will be connected to a monitored fire alarm panel. Standard residential smoke alarms are not listed for commercial use.

Since you say this is your first dental office I hope you have reviewed Article 517 for the wiring methods required in patient care areas.
