doing a design on my first ever healthcare facility. its a small dentist office that will contain 4 patient rooms with nitrous and oxygen, with a small storage room for both gases. art 517.60 tells me that the entire volume of each patient room up to 5 foot is class 1 div 1; however, ive seen these rooms roughed in as other than hazordous locations. am I misinterpreting this article?

517.60(A)(1) applies to hazardous (Flammable) anesthetics.

Nitrous Oxide is not a flammable anesthetic so you don't have a Class 1 location in a Dentists office.

Thanks Chris, that makes sense. I was thinking about nitrous in a race car...toooootally different.

Actually they are the same thing.

Nitrous Oxide is an oxidiser which means that it adds oxygen when added to a flammable liquid or gas.
