installing two chillers just happens to put both control panels facing each other.Panels are mounted on chillers.3 phase 208. pretty much in a open space with no live parts on either side of units. looking at 110.26 looks like 3' would i be right in this. dont want to install them and find out it should of been 4'. some one told me that if it was 480 it would have to be 4' but according to what i see in 110.26 it also would be 3' would i be right in this thanks for your help

If you look at T110.26(A)(1) you'll see that all three conditions have the same requirement of 3' for 0-150 volts to ground. This would be condition 3 which for 151-600 volts would be 4'.

Read closely, the OP says its 208 volts three phase, so 3' is sufficient, he just added the comment that someone told if it was 480, it would be 4', which would be correct.

OK I'll try again. ;)

Conditions 1, 2 or 3 for 0-150 volts to ground = 3' (Once you have 0-150 VTG it's always 3').

Since he has 2 panels mounted facing each other it's condition 3 {110.26(A)(1)}.

Regarding the comment that related to 151-600 volts to ground (he mentioned 480) it would require 4'.

110.26(A)(1) Depth of Working Space. The depth of the working
space in the direction of live parts shall not be less than that
specified in Table 110.26(A)(1) unless the requirements of
110.26(A)(1)(a), (A)(1)(b), or (A)(1)(c) are met. Distances
shall be measured from the exposed live parts or from the
enclosure or opening if the live parts are enclosed.
