The way it is worded in the tables, it lists working depths for specific nominal voltages to ground. What if I have an ungrounded system? Is there no working depth requirement? Seems wrong so is this an NEC wording issue? Is everyone just using the nominal voltage?

From 2017 NEC Article 100:

"Voltage to Ground. For grounded circuits, the voltage between the given conductor and that point or conductor of the circuit that is grounded; for ungrounded circuits, the greatest voltage between the given conductor and any other conductor of the circuit."

Cheers, Wayne

Ah, thanks. I had looked at the definitions in the 2020 NEC and missed it. I see they broke up the definitions into three parts and there are a lot more definitions now.

Wait until you look at the 2023 ...there are over 800 definitions in Article 100, because they moved all of the xxx.2 definitions to Article 100 and added some new ones.
