Description confusion

Why are some things Approved, others Listed, Labled and Identified. I find the NEC Descriptions vague.

By not receiving any replies, this was either a question found to be silly or a question that others also find confusing

Each term that you speak of is defined in article 100. Have you read it?

Approved just means that the AHJ approved something for use.

Say you made some light fixtures that did not have UL tags.

The AHJ would have to approve them for use.

Listed and labeled would mean the unit is listed by a recognized testing lab, like UL, CSA, FM etc.

Note:

"UL approved" is not a valid term used to refer to a UL Listed, UL Recognized or UL Classified product under any circumstance.
